Heaters are a necessity to make your houses warm and mellow. Nobody likes to return to a frosty and cold home. No matter how much we love our heaters, sooner or later they start showing some signs that they can’t work right anymore. It is even more important to not wait for your heater to not totally break down or else you will be left with nothing to protect you from the cold. In this blog, we will be discussing these signs and understand if your heater can be repaired or if replacement is your only resort.
2. Inflated Energy Bills
Furnaces generally start losing their efficiency as they age, especially if they are not serviced on regular intervals. Due to the rising bills, you end up paying much more then you should have been in the first place.
3. Burner Flame Yellow
Old furnaces run the risk of developing cracks in the heat exchanger, inside the furnace. If you have a natural gas or propane furnace then, a yellow flame might be a sign of poisonous carbon monoxide being created by your furnace. Some other signs of carbon monoxide being produced includes:
- soot around furnace
- excessive moisture on cold furnaces
- excessive rusting on appliance jacks
4. Furnace making noise
Often, furnaces start making noises towards the end of their lives. Sometimes, these noises are made by the furnace blower blowing excessively at times. If in case your blower turns on and off frequently and or end up blowing cold air at times, then your furnace might have to be replaced.
5. House unusually dry
Old furnaces start losing their efficiency with time, due to which they are unable to properly moisturize and clean the air of the house. If there is frequent dust accumulation or static shocks, then this maybe a sign of your heater not being competent enough.
If any of the above signs apply to your furnace then replacement might be on the cards, if not, then you will be doing just fine with a regular servicing and maintenance checkup. If, in case you are looking forward to get your heater serviced, get in touch with Pro Plumbing.
