Honing your plumbing skills may not be useful for your resume but it is certainly going to help you manage your plumbing issues better. With a basic knowledge of plumbing, you can fix minor plumbing problems on your own and save some money. Every home has a few common plumbing issues which hinder your day-to-day life. Let us take a look at a few home plumbing repair tips that you should definitely know.
Fixing Weak Water Pressure In The Shower
Over a period of time, the water pressure in your shower can get reduced. This is due to lime scale build up in the shower. This can be fixed easily using a descaling solution, screwdriver, and a bowl. All you have to do is unscrew the shower head and immerse the spray plate in a descaling solution and leave it for some time. Remove limescale particles and replace the shower head.
Unclogging The Sink Drain
Clogging of your bathroom sink is a common phenomenon in most homes. In order to unclog a sink drain, you will need a drain plug adjustment arm. The first step is to remove the spring tab from the drain plug adjustment arm. Then remove the ball valve from the spring trap and remove the pop-up plug. You can then remove the debris clogging the sink drain.
Traps are one of the common areas where blockages occur. Usually, these blockages can be cleared using snakes. But if it is a sink trap, then it needs to be dismantled to remove the blockage. This can be done using a bowl, old toothbrush, and replacement washers. First, undo the sink trap, and place a bowl below it to catch any water from the trap. Then using a toothbrush clean the trap, and wash it in a bucket of clean water.
Fixing a Clogged Toilet
A clogged toilet can ruin your mornings horribly and can cause delays in your daily routine. But if you manage to fix the issue in time, you can save your family from a lot of misery. To fix a clogged toilet you will need a plumbing snake, plunger, rubber gloves and toilet auger. To begin with, you can use a plunger and push it in and out with enough water in the bowl. If your toilet does not get unclogged with a plunger, then try using a plumbing snake.
