Fix a Leaky Outdoor Faucet

Outdoor faucet may leak because of incorrect positioning or damaged washer inside either the spigot or valve stem. To fix this on your own you will need screwdrivers, crescent wrench, washers and lubrication (optional). Follow these steps once you have all the objects.

1. Turn off the main water supply to the outdoor faucet. 
2. Turn on the faucet to drain out all the water from it. Make sure that no water comes out of the faucet before you start working on it.
3. Using an appropriate screwdriver, unscrew the nut on the faucet handle. Now, turn the handle and take it off.
4. Grip the crescent wrench on the faucet and turn it to remove it.
5. The washer that is possibly responsible for the leakage will be inside this faucet. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, remove the washer.
6. Clean the area with a dry cloth. Put in a new washer of the same size. Make sure it is fixed tightly and in the correct manner.
7. Put back the faucet and faucet handle like it was when you started.
8. Turn on the main water supply to the faucet. 
9. Open the tap and let the water flow through it. Check for any more leakages.
10. But, if the leakage still persists, turn off the water supply and remove the faucet and valve system again.
11. You will see a washer at the base of the valve stem. Remove that and replace it with a matching one, like you did in the previous steps.
12. Tighten the washer and put back the valve stem and the faucet.
13. Turn on the water supply and check again.
